Description

ProtectGuard® MG Granite Sealer Marble Sealer Logo

ProtectGuard® MG Granite and Marble Sealer

ProtectGuard MG is a ‘new generation’ stone sealer designed to protect substrates with very low porosity. It strongly repels water, oil, grease, weak acids (fruit juice, tomato sauce etc), and other general stains. In terms of stain resistance it sits right at the top of the ProtectGuard range. It outperforms most competitors’ products. Independent testing puts it well ahead of the likes of Dry Treat and Lithofin.  When only the best will do, choose ProtectGuard MG!

ProtectGuard MG is highly water repellent. So it keeps substrates dry. This, in turn, prevents the growth of moss, mould and lichens.

ProtectGuard MG Marble Sealer Granite Sealer

ProtectGuard MG is ideal for protecting all dense low porosity materials. Such as:

  • Marble.
  • Granite.
  • Ceramics.
  • Polished and crystallised surfaces.
  • Stoneware.
  • Porcelain.
  • Low porosity silica – limestone materials.
  • All smooth mineral substrates.
  • Densified and polished concrete.

ProtectGuard Marble and Granite sealer contains 90% active components, so you aren’t just paying for solvents. As a result it goes a long way. On dense surfaces coverage rates of up to 20m2 per litre are typical. It also comes with a 10 year performance guarantee. ProtectGuard MG provides outstanding value for money.

High Performance Marble SealerProtectGuard MG Stain Resistance Chart

Penetrating very dense and crystallised materials is not easy. This makes them very difficult to seal properly. Marble, in particular, has a crystalline structure that is notorious for making good sealers look bad. So marble is a good testing material for high end sealers. If it performs well on marble it will work as well, if not better on everything else.

ProtectGuard MG has been designed specifically for marble and granite. That’s what the MG stands for, Marble & Granite. As such, it makes an excellent marble sealer. No matter whether the stone is honed, polished, or even crystallised. ProtectGuard MG will penetrate into the surface to provide long lasting protection.

ProtectGuard MG is a Breathable Sealer

Breathable Sealer DiagramProtectGuard MG is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Use for walls or flooring. It is a impregnating type sealer which does not create a surface film. Materials remain permeable to air and water vapour. This allows the surfaces to breathe. Surfaces stay clean and healthy. Moisture in the substrate can escape as water vapour without any negative impacts on the sealer. This is especially important where rising damp is an issue. Film forming sealers cannot breathe and will delaminate, blister and peel under such conditions.

ProtectGuard MG Granite and marble sealer is colourless. It generally does not change the look or texture of the treated material. However, on certain materials it can have a very slight darkening effect. Doing a small test is always recommended before doing a full application.

It has a high level of abrasion resistance, so its fine to use on floors. It is UV and frost resistant and does not discolour with age. Since it doesn’t produce a film on the surface it won’t alter the natural slip levels of the surface.

Need Something Different? There is a Protect Guard Sealer for All Types of Applications

ProtectGuard MG is a solvent based sealer designed for dense and low porosity materials. It can be used on more porous materials, but this may become cost prohibitive. ProtectGuard MG needs to be applied to the point of saturation so the more porous the material is the more sealer you need to use. Therefore, there may be products that are more suitable.

ProtectGuard Sealer Selection Chart

There is a Guard Industry ProtectGuard Sealer to suit every application. For very porous materials consider using ProtectGuard. For high traffic porous floors try Protect Guard HD. For colour enhancement consider Protect Guard WF Premium wet look sealer. If you need acid resistance ProtectGuard Plant Based may the product for you.

Not sure how porous your surface is? Do a water droplet test. Put a drop of water on the surface you want to seal. Then time how long it takes for the droplet to soak in. Check the time against our sealer selection chart.

Can this be applied to vertical surfaces (eg. splashbacks)? Jason asked on 10/10/2025

Yes, definitely. Dwell time will be less as excess will run down the wall, so just be sure to keep applying until saturation is achieved. Often spraying it on in light coats and then buffing in/off excess with a microfibre cloth can be an easier way to apply to dense vertical surfaces.

How much area does 1L cover? Luke asked on 10/09/2025

It depends on the porosity of the materials you are sealing. Typical coverage is 12m2/L for Marble, Travertine & Bluestone. 15m2/L for Granite and imported Sandstone. 17m2/L for Quartzite and Slate. Up to 20m2/L for densified and polished materials.

How many coats are required? Justin asked on 28/08/2023

One coat to the point of saturation is all that is required. This sealer does not repel itself, so if you find it is not repelling as it should you can top up with another coat at any stage in the future.

Once opened, what is the shelf life of the product? Tim asked on 01/02/2023

Once the product has been opened we cannot guarantee a certain shelf life. That said the product is very stable unless it has been left open and it loses a significant percentage if the volatile solvents. As such, if you reseal after use, it should store until the best before date in most cases.

Can this be applied to an old refurbished concrete tough sink? Tim asked on 01/02/2023

Yes. The ProtectGuard MG works great on concrete and we have some manufacturers using it to seal up baths and sinks where they want to maintain a completely natural look. The only limitation is acids. Acids will still etch the concrete and may remove some of the sealer in the process.

James Vander Ros answered on 02/02/2023 store manager

How slip resistant for polish marble floor.

Waruna answered on 29/10/2025

This product does not change the natural texture of materials and therefore will not alter grip.

  1. MG

Cleaned the pavers beforehand, and after drying throughly, found the sealer easy to apply giving a nice clear natural finish to the stone. Will continue to use this granite and marble sealer for re-sealing when the time comes.

  2. JM

The product was applied as per directions on the container, with great success and there are no signs of leakage from below. The product is to be highly recommended.
    You have a happy customer.

  3. SB

I bought ProtectGuard MG to reseal the granite bench tops in my house after I moved in. It was easy to apply and to work with. The finish is excellent – very natural and not high gloss which was exactly what I wanted. The management of Guard Industry were kind, professional and generous in the process. That meant a lot to me. Thank you very much!

  4. J

Just recently sealed my marble pool pavers using this stuff. Being the first time Ive ever sealed anything, very well expensive marble pavers, I was rather anxious. With the super responsive advice and guidance from the team at Guard Industry I have to admit, it was a lot easier than I expected. Almost enjoyable and therapeutic. TBH you wouldn’t even know they were sealed by the finished look – natural finish. Except the water is now pooling beautifully and leaves no stains. The sealer doing its job!

Have used prior, chosen for ease and speed of application primarily, as well as proximity to installation from sealing of our pieces. Prefer a natural look and feel than a plastic-look topical for aesthetics where the substrate has capacity for penetrative, and this provides that, and in a commercial quantity. Great product. 4 stars as no sealers are bullet proof. Otherwise top marks.

  7. A

I was told this would be the best thing to seal my Limestone tiles with, even though they are very porous. So far so good. A little goes a long way. And there is no colour variance from before. Very happy.
