ProtectGuard – Natural Look Sealer

ProtectGuard on Bernini's columns
Bernini’s Columns, The Vatican City

ProtectGuard is a natural look sealer that delivers outstanding protection to all types of porous materials. It is an eco, water based stone sealer that repels water, oils, stains and even graffiti. It comes with a 10 year guarantee and has been proven effective for over 20 years in some cases. It is currently protecting iconic structures all over the world. Such as Bernini’s Columns at St Peters Square at the Vatican, and the Louvre in Paris. ProtectGuard is the stone protection product of choice.

ProtectGuard helps tackle the deterioration caused by smog, greasy stains, and penetration of liquids.  Treated surfaces will benefit from an increased life-span and will be easier to clean.  Due to it’s high water repellency and vapour breathability, it keeps porous materials dry. This stops mould and mildew growth. And will be difficult for lichens and moss to become established. Your materials will stay healthy and clean.

ProtectGuard protects the Louvre
Louvre, Paris

ProtectGuard works by stopping stains from soaking into the substrate. It repels all kinds of liquids keeping them above the surface. They can then be easily cleaned off. Surfaces are much easier to keep clean when they are protected with this stone sealer. It even stops chewing gum from sticking to the surface, and allows for easy, residue free removal.

ProtectGuard is also an anti graffiti coating! It stops paint and ink from soaking into the pores of the material. It can then easily be removed from the surface with GraffiGuard 2030 Eco. Guard Industry have developed this safe eco cleaner specifically for use with ProtectGuard. It will safely remove the graffiti without damaging the ProtectGuard. The seal remains intact for ongoing protection. This is a very safe and effective means of controlling and managing graffiti. No other natural look sealer that can do that! Except perhaps, ProtectGuard HD

ProtectGuard is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. It is designed for use on all types of porous building materials. Use with confidence on:

  • concrete.
  • cement.
  • plasters.
  • natural and synthetic stone.
  • terracotta.
  • paving and more…

ProtectGuard lets Materials Breathe

ProtectGuard Breathability Diagram ProtectGuard does not product a surface film. This full penetrating sealer leaves the treated surface permeable to air and water vapour. This enables any moisture trapped in the material to escape. This is important for most outdoor sealing applications. Water always seems to get in somehow! There are a few applications where moisture issues are very common. These include:

  • retaining walls.
  • low or below grade floors.
  • water features.
  • paving around pools.

ProtectGuard is completely invisible after application. So it does not change the look or the texture of the treated surface. It is UV and frost resistant and does not change colour with age. Its also non slip! Since it does not produce a surface film it will not alter the natural grip levels of the material. As such, full penetrating sealers should always be used in areas where slips need to be minimised.

ProtectGuard Porosity Test Selection Chart

A water droplet test is a handy way to check the porosity of your material. This is a good place to start when deciding which Protect Guard sealer is right for your application. Simply put a drop of water on the surface you want to seal. Time how long it takes for the droplet to soak in. Then check it against our selection chart.

    Chris Thorne

My name is Chris Thorne and I wrote my first Testimonial on Guard Industry product over 2 years ago, I would like to update my Testimonial and let you know I am still using Guard Industry’s cleaning and sealing range.
As an Accredited Sealer Applicator my go to sealers are Guard Industry’s ProtectGuard® or ProtectGuard® HD Sealers as they are a water base penetrating sealer, 100% Biodegradable, has a 10-year effectiveness guarantee and very user friendly.
There are no hidden secrets in the “how to use” instructions, for large jobs I prefer to apply the ProtectGuard® Sealer using a sprayer and wiping of the access using a lamb’s wool applicator. Smaller jobs I use a fence paint brush or a lamb’s wool applicator to apply the sealer and use a microfibre cloth to wipe of the access.
Please remember the key to a good sealing job is preparation and for this I use Guard Wash® or Guard Wash® Express as it eliminates organic contaminates on all materials.

Q & A

How much sealer to coat 50m2 of smooth sandstone pool and patio cover? This has been previously sealed with dry treat twice in 10yrs. Bill hizart asked on 11/09/2021
Usage rates vary with material porosity. There is a coverage rate table in the Technical Data Sheet (see 'data sheets' tab) which estimates usage rates on different materials. For previously sealed surfaces you need to check that water will soak into the stone. If not the existing sealer needs to be stripped off. We also highly recommend doing a water droplet test. If the droplet soaks into the material within a minute ProtectGuard should be suitable. If it takes longer then ProtectGuard HD or ProtectGuard MG Eco may be more suitable.
